Choose your charts wisely. The pie chart (top) and line chart (bottom) both depict the same set of data: a personal budget. In this case, the line chart is a poor choice as it seems to be implying a diminishing expenditure over time (the traditional reading of such charts) when, in fact, it’s showing respective expenditures in the same time period. In this case the pie chart is a much better choice.
