Hi Folks!
I'm in desperate need of help. My laptop came up with a warning message about spyware. My work IT man ran an anti-spyware programme on it and in the process deleted 15 files full of family photographs. He has since been back in but cannot find any of these. Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance

You can sometimes recover files from a formatted drive. To do so, you'll either need to use special software or a data recovery service. The latter can be extremely expensive, but promises a better chance of recovering more data. If the data in question is very valuable, then it's worth getting a data recovery service to do the work for you. Do a search for "data recovery services" or "recover files from formatted drive" to find services and software which may help.

However, lots of factors go into determining whether you'll recover the data:
* If you've done a low-level format - the type of format used to prepare a drive to receive an operating system - then you have erased all your data and you're unlikely to recover a thing. If, on the other hand, you've done the standard "high-level" format which you run from within your operating system, then although the file system table will have been overwritten, the data is probably still there and you may be able to get it back.
* The more you use your computer after the format, the less likely you'll recover anything. So, stop using your computer as soon as you recognise what you've done.
* Certain types of files are more easily recoverable than others. Plain text, for example, is easier to recover than formatted wordprocessing files; data files on the whole are easier to recover than programs).

Thanks a lot. Just discovered this site googling why defrag has to be done and found a lot of other amazing articles like this one. I've always wondered about this. One question though, I don't think it's possible to recover files from a recently formatted drive. Is that right? I'm not sure what's the process behind formatting.

Hi, I manage alot if my multimedia on an external hard drive for which I transferred a movie from one folder to another. Both of these folders are on the portable hard drive, when I went back into the 'Movies' folder all of my films had disappeared without me touching any delete key or confirming to Recycle Bin. Does anyone know what happened or if there is any chance I can get these back?

recently i cut a folder in desktop to e folder and while cutting some files doesnt cut and it shown that the file name is too long so i unfortunately skipped those selected files in folders automatically as it appears.so some files missed in received folder.and also as i checked and found the cause i again in desktop using the same folder name tried to restored in desktop.but as it showing the files in restore blocks with date in newly created folder with same file name but i couldnt copy or move the files from there to the desktop bcause it instructs me that "the file name is too long to be open", so i tried to edit but there was no option for editing.hence what is the solution for retrieving my original files.....
